Bengalas (Sparklers)

Yo me puse realmente histérica, llorando y gritando, y eché a correr.

Another pic.
I really like how the sparks appear in this image, they look like rain falling. This photography portrays a very common festivity in Cataluña and other parts of the north of Spain, as La Rioja, and it's called Correfoc. During that celebration, the streets previously "decorated" with firecrackers, are crowded by people dressed up as macabre characters like demonic clowns, monks, demons and that kind of thing that chase people throwing sparks over them. It can seem funny, and for some people it will be, but those who know me have hear my anecdote about the Correfoc.
I was younger... maybe twelve. I don't remember it exactly but well, that's an approximation. I was spending my holidays with my aunt and uncle in Calahorra, Logroño, precisely when the festivities were. Generally, I loved them, and actually I hope going there again this summer, but something happened to me, something that I think I'll never forget. It was the night of the Correfoc. We went out to have some dinner and we were inside a café when it began. I saw the street become full of clowns and demons, throwing sparks and fire over the people outside, and that scared me. My mum and my aunt tried to calm me down, they told me that we would went out when they were gone and nothing would happen. But when we left the place, those creepy fellows were still around there. I got completely hysterical, crying and screaming and I started to run. Understand me, please, nobody likes to be chased by a diabolical harlequin. While I was in such a panicked state, I saw "the motorbike". The motorbike was the star of the spectacle that night. It ran across the streets, making a thunderous noise and behing people. When I saw it I freaked out, 'cause the motorbike was pursuing me. I remember myself running and hidden in a doorway, waiting the motorbike to be gone. Was the driver such a jerk that he didn't notice she had a little girl in front of him?
Anyway... if I go to Calahorra this summer for the festivities, I won't go out of the house that night. Ah... and as a curious piece of information... do you know that I've never had a sparkler in my hand? Not even in Christmas, when at school teachers and parents did the play about the Three Wise Men. I think is a bit sad.
